Salary: $675/Month
Schedule: Part-Time. Onsite- 16 Hours/Month, Offsite-Flexible Hours
Supervisor: Director of Academics
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Hillside Islamic Center was established to serve the best interests of Islam and the Muslims in and around the New Hyde Park, NY area. The center serves as a source of guidance for Muslims practicing Islam, carrying out Islamic programs and projects in accordance with the guidelines of the Qur’an and Sunnah. We aim to provide the entire spectrum of Islamic activities, including but not limited to religious, social, physical, spiritual and educational activities. We strive to promote friendly relations and understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims in accordance with the Islamic tradition through cooperation with other organizations on a town, county, and state level for the benefit of humanity through the propagation of Islamic values.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sunday School Principal will work directly under the Director of Academics. The Principal serves as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. Principal is responsible for coordinating the work of all the classes and departments toward the overarching objective of the HIC Sunday School. Leads the instructors in planning, organizing, enlisting and equipping students with a strong academic foundation in Islamic knowledge.
FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The principal is required to perform the following duties and undertake the following
responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Lead in evaluating needs related to space, budget, curriculum, supplies, student registration and other needed resources.
- Meet regularly with the Director of Academics and appointed individuals to assess areas of improvement for Sunday school.
- Supervise asst. Principal, teachers, asst. teachers, volunteers.
- Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs with the Director of Academics.
- Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Supervise communication between instructors and parents.
- Participate in development of school improvement plans with the Director of Academics.
- Develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and record to track progress on school performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation meetings.
- Conduct interviews, selecting, and orienting new staff with the approval from the Academic Director.
- Work with the Academic Director to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non instructional periods.
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or a university with relevant coursework
- 2-3 years of experience in educational administration
- Fluent in english, both oral and written
- Must possess strong public relations and networking skills
- Works well as part of a team
- Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated
- Demonstrates strong work ethic, maturity and experience
- Strong Islamic Character with good communication, organizational and leadership abilities
- Displays effective time management skills
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Quran and Islamic knowledge and/or degree/coursework in Islamic studies is highly desired.
- Highly skilled with computers and technology
